In & Out

I was really inspired by Jennifer Tamayo’s poetry (especially Epilogue). I was particularly intrigued by the way that interruptions work in this piece. The “collected” phrases from media, pop culture, etc. and the lyrics that she incorporates breathe in and out of the work; they attribute to a collective consciousness while at the same time advancing an underlying personal narrative. I decided to write a poem inspired by Epilogue in which lyrics are used as the main collected device; I also decided to interrupt the lyrics to see how that fragmented or changed the underlying narrative. Read it here
