prayer request cards

I would like the church to pray for

new organs paired to measure and check

               energy too generous to meter

good activity to reign the day

I would like the church to pray for

               spines

               solace, like an ice bath

the loving care of the exultant

I would like the church to pray for

                my dear friends,

                     glowy

                                    steeped

                     exhausted

                                     exacting

every tense of living, which cannot be

                 fixed

                 my father, the socialist

I love you

Lovely. I love the doubling of the organs – the organs of a church, and the organs of a body, then paired to measure. I’m not quite sure how “check” is working there though. The sound-logic of “spines / solace” is really compelling – makes me think about the relationship between spines as anatomical tangible things, but also about the figurative use of “having a spine” and what that might mean in proximity to solace.
